TOP FLORIDA CONGRESSIONAL DEMOCRATS, CANDIDATES CALL FOR ‘SOLUTIONS NOT SCAPEGOATS’ AT DMFI PAC RALLY FOR BIDEN

Washington, DC (October 30, 2020) — Last night, DMFI PAC hosted a Florida Get Out The Vote rally to support the Biden-Harris campaign and pro-Israel Florida Democrats in key House races. The event featured remarks from 7 Democratic Members of Congress from the Sunshine state as well as from Alan Cohn and Margaret Good, two challengers in competitive races who would flip their districts from red to blue.

“We were thrilled to bring together this inspiring group of Florida leaders and lawmakers,” said DMFI PAC President Mark Mellman. “Florida may very well be the most critical battleground state in the most important election in our lifetime, and if pro-Israel Democrats show up and vote, Joe Biden will be our next president.”

The speakers drew a sharp contrast between Vice President Biden and President Trump, noting Joe Biden’s decades-long commitment to the U.S.-Israel relationship.

“When it comes to our position in the world, this president has withdrawn American leadership on a whole host of issues,” said Representative Ted Deutch (FL-22). “Vice President Biden understands how important it is for us to work with the international community. Israel is strongest, and the U.S.-Israel relationship is strongest, when America is strong.”

Congressmembers highlighted Joe Biden’s strong support for Democratic priorities like effectively addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, protecting women’s reproductive rights, combatting climate change, and enacting immigration reform.

“Democrats have a plan. Joe Biden has been through this before,” said Representative Donna Shalala (FL-27). “He knows how to put together a group of people with a disciplined plan for the federal government to take hold of this pandemic.”

“By electing Joe Biden, we’re ensuring that Donald Trump cannot appoint more conservative sycophantic judges, who will stop at nothing to overturn Roe v. Wade,” said Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23).

“We need leaders who recognize the threat of climate change, leaders who know our environment is too precious to politicize, leaders like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who have a plan to tackle climate change head on and restore America as a global leader in the climate movement,” said Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26).

“Most of our ancestors immigrated here from somewhere else, and there are stark differences between Trump and Joe Biden on these issues,” said Representative Darren Soto (FL-09). “We would never see families separated at the border under a Biden administration. We wouldn’t see Dreamers used as political pawns.”

Speakers also emphasized Democrats’ broad vision for restoring the soul of the nation, a theme central to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s campaign.

“We need people at every level of government who will not just talk the talk, but who will actually walk the walk,” said Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy (FL-07).

“This is a choice between two extremely different visions of America,” said Alan Cohn, candidate for Florida’s 15th District.

“We deserve a leader who brings out the best in us, who reminds us that there is more that unites us than divides us,” said Representative Lois Frankel (FL-21). “We deserve a president who in times of crisis looks for solutions, not scapegoats.”

With the election season coming to a close on Tuesday, the candidates detailed their own campaigns’ get-out-the-vote efforts and encouraged Floridians to show up at the polls.

“We are out knocking on doors, in a very safe manner, we are also on the phones making sure that every Democrat, every potential voter for Joe Biden and for me…know where to vote, how to vote, and how to do it safely,” said Margaret Good, candidate for Florida’s 16th Congressional District.
