Today, following reports that Governor Tim Walz will be the Democratic nominee for vice president, DMFI PAC Chairman Mark Mellman released the following statement:

“We are thrilled to congratulate Governor Tim Walz on his selection as Vice President Harris’ running mate. Not only is Governor Walz an accomplished and beloved leader in the state of Minnesota, having been elected six times to the House of Representatives and twice to the governorship, but he is also a proud pro-Israel Democrat with a strong record of supporting the U.S.-Israel relationship.

“As a United States representative, then-Congressman Walz traveled to Israel as part of a diplomatic trip to the Middle East where he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In the House, Governor Walz supported a number of resolutions that helped to strengthen the U.S.-Israel alliance, has fully and consistently backed U.S. military aid to Israel, and called Israel ‘our truest and closest ally in the region, with a commitment to values of personal freedoms and liberties, surrounded by a pretty tough neighborhood.’

“As governor, he has been a steadfast supporter of the pro-Israel community in Minnesota. In the wake of Hamas’ barbaric October 7th attacks, Governor Walz ordered state flags to be flown at half-mast and condemned the ‘horrific attacks on Israel by Hamas,’ and, at a vigil for the victims, asked anyone who did not immediately condemn the assault to ‘reevaluate where you’re at.’

“Governor Walz has worked to increase Holocaust education in Minnesota and condemned pro-Hamas protests that excluded Jewish students from campus spaces.

“We look forward to supporting the historic Harris-Walz campaign as we work to elect America’s first Black female and first Indian-American President and pro-Israel Democrats up and down the ballot.”
