Following several news organizations calling the presidential contest, DMFI PAC Chairman and CEO Mark Mellman made the following statement:

“We’ve long believed that Joe Biden is the best person to unite our country, restore dignity and a moral compass to a White House that has been badly sullied by the current occupant. Today, after a legitimate democratic process, it’s clear that Americans have rejected the president’s divisiveness and bigotry in favor of the sound leadership of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

“As senator and vice president, Joe Biden has proven he will fight for Democratic priorities like affordable health care, quality education, social justice, protecting the environment, and for a strong U.S.-Israel relationship. He and Kamala Harris are uniquely suited to turn the page from this dark chapter in American history and begin healing rifts at home and restoring America’s standing abroad.

“President-elect Biden’s electoral success also demonstrates that, despite the predictions of some, supporting a strong U.S.-Israel relationship is good politics, as well as smart policy.

“We send our warmest congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. We are thrilled that they will be at the helm of new American leadership that’s so badly needed. We look forward to working with the new administration to advance our Democratic values, including a strong U.S.-Israel relationship for which they have been champions.”

DMFI PAC was the first pro-Israel organization to endorse Vice President Biden’s candidacy during the primary season. Biden sent a letter to our sister organization, Democratic Majority for Israel, writing that he was “honored” to have our support and that “DMFI has been a powerful voice standing up for our party’s principles and advocating for a strong enduring partnership between Israel and the U.S., grounded in our democratic values.”

DMFI PAC spent more than $5 million this election cycle in support of pro-Israel Democrats including Vice President Biden. We worked tirelessly to help him defeat Donald Trump’s hateful agenda through extensive get out the vote programs that engaged more than 70,000 of our supporters, running ads in battleground states targeted to pro-Israel voters, publishing an array of op-eds and organizing volunteers for phone banking and canvassing events.

As a freshman senator, in 1973, Joe Biden visited Israel, during his first trip abroad, meeting with then Prime Minister Golda Meir, and her staff, which included future Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Since then, Biden has worked with every Israeli Prime Minister to strengthen Israel’s security and fortify the U.S.-Israel alliance.

As vice president, Biden championed Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, which has saved countless Israeli and Palestinian lives as Hamas has launched over 15,000 rockets from Gaza at Israeli civilians. He also played a key role in negotiating the Obama-Biden Administration’s ten-year Memorandum of Understanding, which codified the largest-ever level of U.S. security assistance to Israel.
