DMFI PAC Chairman, Mark Mellman, released the following statement today:

“We congratulate our fellow Democrat Jamaal Bowman, and his allies, on a great campaign and, should the current numbers hold, look forward to working with him as a Member of Congress.

“Eliot Engel earned our support in this race by his forceful leadership on behalf of a progressive agenda, which includes a strong U.S.-Israel relationship. His constituents apparently questioned whether he had lost touch with them, and that is, of course, wholly their decision to make.

“It is important to note that, from voters’ point of view, support for Israel was not part of the debate in this race. The one exception—in the final hours of the campaign, Mr. Bowman worked to burnish his pro-Israel credentials writing a newspaper op-ed stating his personal opposition to the BDS movement, his support for continued U.S. aid to Israel, and backing Israel’s right to defend itself from Hamas and other terrorist groups.

“Overall, DMFI PAC was thrilled with the victories for candidates we supported, including newcomer Ritchie Torres on whose behalf we also conducted an independent expenditure campaign. Other DMFI PAC supported candidates who posted victories last night included Representatives Gregory Meeks, Grace Meng, Jerry Nadler, and Tom Suozzi.

“So far this year, thirteen DMFI PAC supported candidates have won their races, one may have lost, and one race is still undecided.

“We Democrats face critical challenges this November—defeating the worst president in our history, regaining control of the Senate and retaining our House majority. Achieving those goals requires party unity. We hope to help forge that unity together with those who were on opposite sides in these primaries.”
