Following a vote on H.R.5917 in the House of Representatives, DMFI PAC Chairman Mark Mellman today released the following statement:

“All people of good conscience should be appalled that Congresswoman Cori Bush was one of just four members of the House who voted to protect a savage terrorist organization from U.S. sanctions.

“Yesterday, Bush voted against the Strengthening Tools to Counter the Use of Human Shields Act which enhances sanctions enforcement against terrorist organizations that use innocent civilians as human shields, including requiring sanctions against Palestinian Islamic Jihad leaders who use human shields. The U.S. National Counter Terrorism Center says Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which is funded by Iran, was designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. in 1997, has fired some 6,000 rockets at Israeli civilians, and is ‘committed to the destruction of Israel.’

“Protecting the leaders of terrorist groups who use human shields is simply unconscionable and indefensible. Four hundred and nineteen Members of Congress understood that. Sadly, Cori Bush did not.”
